Site Safety the focus at Perth Markets

Announcements

Perth Markets Group Limited (PMG) is an industry-based facility owner, manager and developer, primarily serving the fresh produce industry.

The Perth Markets and Market City Site, owned by PMG, includes a diverse cluster of businesses involved in wholesale fruit and vegetable trading, food retailing, business service providers and weekend consumer markets.

The Site, as a whole, not only plays a critical role in fresh produce supply it makes a significant contribution to the State’s economy and local communities and families.

Every year, more than 194,000 tonnes of produce is traded through Perth Markets; making the Site a vital service in the distribution of Western Australia’s fruit and vegetable produce.

Critical to our operation is our ability to offer a safe and productive workplace.

With more than 2000 people , 350+ forklifts and movement of cars, vans and trucks around the Site the safety of every person on the Perth Markets’ Site is something we put a high value on. We have therefore recently reviewed and refreshed our Site Rules and Guides, and Traffic Management Plan.

We created these documents in close collaboration with our Site Users and have created the documents to be simpler, easier to digest and up to date with current legislation and government regulations.

The revised rules and guides came into effect as of 1 January 2021. As such, PMG is now undertaking a Site-wide education campaign to engage Site Users on their obligations; working hand in hand with them to deliver Inductions and briefing sessions for their staff.

The process of developing these standards has been significant and we are proud to now have these standards in place.

As Western Australia’s only wholesale fresh food central trading market, we have an obligation to safeguard the consistency in delivery of the State’s supply of fruit and vegetables and we see these new rules as being a core element.

If anyone would like to take a look at these, please visit the Site Rules and Guides page on this website.
