Waste Management

Cleanaway has been appointed the site waste transport provider commencing July 1, 2022, for a 5-year term. The pricing for the waste management transport service does not change between the outgoing and incoming contractors. The motivator for the change resides in the opportunity to improve the recycling of the organic waste.

Organic waste is currently sent to a composter to be bundled, doused in lime, and digested in mounds to produce organic garden fertilisers and mulches. This process also generates carbon in the digesting process contributing to the carbon footprint.  The opportunity has been provided through Cleanaway to take part in a program involving the organic waste being consumed by the Black Soldier Fly Larvae which creates no carbon in the process.

The people at Future Green Solutions, whose black soldier fly technology is responsible for this zero-carbon footprint process is currently commencing the construction phase for a facility in Muchea. The facility will be commissioned in mid-2023, where it will commence with 30 tonnes of organic waste per day ramping to 350 tonnes per day shortly after. Environmentally sustainable protein and oil, suitable for the feed stock industry and fertilisers, for the agricultural industry, being the end result of processing this organic waste.

The Perth Markets will provide the organic materials collected as part of the waste transfer facility.
