New café, Kai Thyme, opens in Market City

Market City

Kai Thyme, a new pie stop and bakery, opened at Market City this week. The family owned and operated business brings favourites from the Australian and Kiwi kitchens, with hot pies, breakfast and lunch meals, salads, sandwiches, sweet and savoury bakery treats, smoothies, milkshakes and coffees on offer.

Owner and chief pie maker, Manu Reed, said the decision to open the café was driven by their family’s desire to find the perfect pie.

“We are a big family of foodies. We love great food and have a great time cooking together,” said Manu.

“For more than ten years we have been working across the catering industry as individuals but have come together to open Kai Thyme. I am the chief pie maker, my husband Matt looks after the coffees and drinks, my niece Brieanne will be our Pastry chef and sister Cherrilyn is our resident baker. And of course, the kids join us on occasion also.”

The Café brings an exciting new food offering to Market City. There’s everything from a hog-tied pulled pork burger with onion rings, to a Greek salad with mixed greens, onion, olives and feta. You can opt for a meal cooked and ready to go, or you can even purchase a ‘heat n eat’ meal that you can buy and heat up later – such as curried sausages and mash or lasagne.

It’s the perfect spot to stop for a quick bit or something more substantial. And of course, there’s always space for a hot pie and signature destination dishes aptly named Kaiwaka food.

“My personal favourite is the Kiwi Boil Up Pie,” said Manu.

Kai Thyme chose to set up shop at Perth Markets due to its locality to a vast amount of passing traffic and potential custom from the retail/commercial centre. But it’s also where they began what the family likes to call … life’s journey …. heading towards a great destination and finding something great to eat on the way … right here in Canning Vale.
